PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has mooted a proposal of introducing sports as a pre-vocational subject in class IX, with efforts on to introduce it as a vocational subject in Class XI.
The Goa Board has already placed this idea before the government and the sports directorate and is working towards introducing it in the curriculum in the next academic year.
“The curriculum will be prepared by the Board,” GBSHSE Chairman J R Rebello. Besides theory, there is also a practical component that will be included in the curriculum.
Presently, ICSE has Sports as a subject and the Goa Board is looking at chalking out its curriculum on the same lines.
In the meantime educationists, officials from various sports divisions, and Goa Board have started deliberating on the sports policy and the marking system over which there have been differences of opinion.
The first round of deliberations were held on Friday and discussions would continue next month. The Goa Board, we are told have put across their views in a bid to clear various anomalies in the sports marking system. The Board strongly advocates a fair deal for students who participate at various tournaments from taluka, district and state level.
It also proposed to study the sports policies of neighbouring Karnataka and Maharashtra and a meeting has been scheduled in the second week of July where all the key officials will exchange ideas on the system.
