The body of 22-year-old Arjun Kumar was recovered from turbulent waters at Vagator beach. Arjun, from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh had disappeared into the rough sea waves while trying to take a selfie at Vagator beach. The unfortunate incident occurred on a Sunday evening, around 3 pm, when Arjun decided to visit the sea at Small Vagator. Ignoring the warnings of a vigilant lifeguard stationed at the beach, he ventured onto the rocky area and began indulging in a spree of selfie-taking.
An eyewitness to the incident reported that tragedy struck when a massive wave crashed onto the rocks where Arjun was perched to take a selfie. He lost his footing and slipped into the waters. The diligent lifeguard promptly sprang into action. However, despite valiant efforts, Arjun could not be saved and went missing in the turbulent sea. It is worth noting that, on the day of the incident, Vagator beach had drawn a significant crowd of tourists, even amidst warnings of the approaching severe cyclonic storm named “Biparjoy.”
Despite the storm warning and the potential dangers it presented, many beachgoers were seen venturing into the sea, defying the lifeguards’ efforts to control the surging crowd and warn them about the imminent risks. The tragic loss of Arjun Kumar serves as a stark reminder of the hazards associated with negligence and disregard for safety precautions, particularly in areas prone to rough sea conditions.
As the news of this unfortunate incident spreads, it highlights the need for increased awareness and responsible behaviour among individuals, especially while engaging in activities near water bodies. It is a poignant reminder that capturing the perfect picture should never come at the cost of one’s life.
