PANJIM: Even as classes recommenced for the academic year 2016-17 on June 6, distribution of text and note books is moving at a snail’s pace. Similarly, raincoats and uniforms are also yet to reach the primary students. Several students in government and aided schools are studying without textbooks with the authorities claiming that printing of all books is not complete. “The free distribution of text books began on the day schools reopened but there has been a shortage. The remaining bulk is in the process of printing,” an official said. The annual scheme is expected to cover over one lakh students from Class I to VIII.
Likewise, free distribution of notebooks to primary students – two 200 pages and two 100 pages – supply of over 14,000 uniforms and raincoats to Class I and III government primary students is also pending.
