PANJIM: Goa government has said it would grant licences to the two upcoming electronic dance music festivals provided the organizers and police arrive at a consensus over the deployment of security around the venues. This is despite the Calangute BJP MLA Michael Lobo saying he was against holding both the festivals at the same time.
Speaking to Herald, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said the government has already asked Goa Police to draw up a security plan and submit a report, while the department claims, it has already submitted a report to the government suggesting that the organizers should deploy private security guards in addition to the police force, to check the venue for any illegal activities.
“The government has asked the police department to check every security angle at the two venues and submit a report to us. We have also asked them to inform this to the organizers of the two EDMs. Once they agree with the security deployment, we will grant them the NOCs,” Parulekar said.
Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg told reporters at a press briefing that in the police report, they have suggested that organizers should have their own private security besides police force.
Goa police are short of manpower due to major events happening in Goa since last month including visits of VIPs during the peak season. Supersonik and Sunburn organizers have already announced their events scheduled from December 27 to 30 at Candolim and December 27 to 29 at Vagator respectively.
