The recent landslides which brought down heavy boulders in various parts of the State following incessant rains had caused inconvenience to the people and damage to property.
Now, another impending disaster seems to be waiting at Sindolim in Sancoale.
A huge boulder and other smaller boulders above it are hanging precariously along the Cortalim-Sancoale road (via Sindolim) which can prove disastrous in the event it rolls down especially during office and school hours.
When this danger was brought to the notice of Sancoale Sarpanch Sharan Meti, he assured to immediately write to the PWD to clear the area and remove the boulder.
What is striking is the fact that many officials and even politicians use the road on a regular basis, but surprisingly it did not invite their attention to the huge boulder and other smaller boulders lying precariously along the road in Sindolim.
Meanwhile, in a bid to address the accumulation of water a little further away at Gonpoi, the PWD has taken up major works including the drainage and cross drainage works at a cost of Rs 29 lakh, to facilitate the flow of water during the monsoons.
According to Junior Engineer Marcus D’Costa, the work was proposed by Cortalim MLA and Forest and Environment Minister Alina Saldanha.
The work will bring much relief to the local residents and road users since the stretch would get blocked since there was no proper drainage system for water to flow.
