VASCO: The post-mortem report of the seven-year-old boy, who was found dead in a semi-nude condition, just metres away from the Saptah stalls on Monday, has revealed that he died due to brain injuries sustained after falling from a height, maybe from second floor, said Vasco Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunita Sawant on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons, Sawant informed that the post mortem was conducted in Goa Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.
The report has revealed the reason behind the boy’s death was due to injuries to the skull, brain and shock to his chest after falling down from a height may be from the second floor, she said.
Ruling out sodomy, physical violence etc., Sawant said, “As per the post-mortem report there is no physical violence of any sort and as per our investigation, the sodomy angle has been ruled out. There are no fractures other than the damage to the skull.”
The faecal matter found on the boy’s body hints that he may have defecated in a nearby area or might have gone in search of water, where the police found his short pant in an empty water tank on the terrace, she said.
“According to our investigation, the boy had a habit of jumping and as per the information provided by his family, on Sunday he was alone running around and playing in the fair,” Sawant said.
She said based on such information, there are possibilities that the boy may have tried to jump from one parapet to another, as the terrace of the building areas is zigzag and the distance between the two parapets is less.
According to the boy’s mother, he was wearing her slippers, which were found on the terrace. The body had scratch marks near the genitals, thighs and even moss had formed. As per the mother’s description of an orange coloured waist thread of the boy, was also found along the sewerage pipeline, which leads to a possibility that he may have tried to grab while he was falling, Sawant claimed.
When asked as to what steps the police have initiated so far to solve the case, Sawant said the police are investigating from all possible angles.
She revealed that six teams under her supervision are investigating the case.
PI Nilesh Rane (Vasco), PI Sandesh Chodankar (Verna), PI Pravin Powar (Mormugao), PI Ravi Desai (Dabolim Airport) and PI Sachin Panhalkar (Railway Station) were present at the site on Tuesday.
“Along with SP South Arvind Gawas I visited the spot several times to inquire and take updates on the investigation,” Sawant said adding that CCTV footages have been checked thoroughly. “We are recording statements of the people and all six teams are investigating the case from various angles,” she added.
According to sources, the boy’s family had a stall at the Saptah fair, which was selling utensils. The police tower was located near the spot.
Vasco Police have registered a case of kidnap under Section 363 of the IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act.
