In a significant operation conducted on Tuesday at the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, authorities successfully seized gold bars and bricks valued at Rs 3.09 crore. The Border Security Force (BSF) executed the operation at Halderpara in the Angrail border outpost area, resulting in the apprehension of one individual.
The confiscated items comprised two gold bars and 30 gold biscuits, with a total weight of 4.82 kg. The BSF personnel, on duty, observed three individuals crossing the Ichamati River from Bangladesh into India, utilizing it as a boundary marker. Despite the attempt by BSF personnel to capture all three, two managed to evade capture, while one individual identified as Prosenjit Mandal was detained.
The incident unfolded at approximately 3 pm on Sunday when Mandal, a local resident, was found transporting the gold consignment across the river into India. Mandal disclosed to the BSF that he had been paid Rs 500 by an unknown party to facilitate the transportation of the gold.
Upon reaching the riverbank, Mandal was handed the gold bars and biscuits, but he was intercepted by BSF personnel while returning to the Indian side. Mandal has been handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) by the BSF for further legal proceedings.
