PANJIM: Around 400 people have given thumbs up to bullfights in the State while 18 have opposed it.
The House committee on bullfights, which met under the chairmanship of MLA Benjamin Silva, has decided to expedite the report of the House committee.
Speaking to Herald, House committee member MLA Caetano (Caitu) Silva said they will now inspect bulls. “We had asked for suggestions and 400 people were in favour and 18 were against it,” he said.
He added that those who opposed the sport, felt that bullfights meant cruelty to animals and was against the law. “In Goa it is in vogue to oppose anything but the committee will see the ground reality, see the condition in which bulls are kept and then decide,” he said.
“Bullfight is an age-old sport of the State and the panel is of the opinion that it must continue,” he said adding bullfights can be major tourist attraction.
Dy Speaker Vishnu Wagh and MLA Nilesh Cabral were also present for meeting.
