Burglars reign in Margao continues; wholesale shop, courier office robbed

Thieves continued to make merry in the Commercial Capital for the second day.
A day after targeting a pharmacy and a stationary shops, burglars returned back last night to burgle a wholesale shop and a courier office right in the heart of the city. In both the case, the miscreants effected entry by breaking open the shutter locks.
Owner of Goa Wholesale Centre, Uday said the miscreants ransacked the general merchant establishment after laying their hands on the keys.
Fortunately, the miscreant could not lay their hand on any valuables in both the wholesale establishment and the courier office.
“I along with my son came rushing to the shop after the incident was intimated to us this morning. We immediately called the police and found to our shock that the shop was ransacked inside. The miscreants, however, could not lift away anything”, he added.
That the gang of thieves were freely targeting the shops and business establishments in the Commercial Capital in recent times has created a fear psychosis amongst the business community.
A prominent shop owner said if thieves has the audacity to break open the locks and bend shutters without being caught by the police indicates that something wrong has gone in the law and order machinery. “Where is the safety and security if thieves can break open shops and establishments at will in the city represented by the state’s Chief Minister”, he asked.
The businessman further said that the Margao police should stop complaining over manpower shortage by deploying officers for night patrolling on a daily basis.
Incidentally, the spate of thefts have come at a time when the Margao police had recently taken into custody a 7-member gang of thieves, who were arrested by the Karwar police in similar offenses.
