CALANGUTE: Burglars broke into four temples at Anjuna and decamped with goods and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.05 lakh in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to Anjuna police, the burglars first broke open three other smaller temples in the area of Gaumvaddi-Anjuna, but could hardly get anything from the temples.
The burglars later broke open the door of Bhumika Panchayatan Devasthan and decamped with gold ornaments including the mangalsutra of the Goddess, earrings, nose rings, crown and other ornaments, all worth Rs 1.05 lakh.
Police further informed that the burglars cut off the power supply of the temple and surrounding areas before forcing their way into the temple. The people in the neighbourhood heard some unusual sound in the temple and raised an alarm for help and also alerted the Anjuna police.
Anjuna police rushed to the site and took stock of the situation. The CCTV cameras installed in the temple premises failed to capture the footage, as the CCTVs were non-functional due to the power outage. PSI Mahesh Kerkar is investigating the case.
