MARGAO: Burglars made their presence felt once again in Raia last night. This time, however, though they effected their entry inside a bungalow by removing the window grill, they could not lay their hands on the booty.
Police sources said the miscreants had to beat a hasty retreat after a neighbour raised an alarm over their presence outside the house. The miscreants are believed to have made the abortive bid to burgle the house at around 3 am. House owner Bilina Dias informed that she had twice heard some sounds in the house, but could not find anything inside. It was only in the morning that realisation dawned that the miscreants had removed the window grill and effected entry inside. “Thank God, they could not lay their hands on any valuables,” Dias said.
Her neighbour Damacian D’Mello told the media that his brother had come out of the house at around 3 am to answer nature’s call when he found some people outside the house of Ms Dias. “When my brother raised an alarm, they threw a stone at him before making good their escape,” D’Mello said.
