MARGAO: Buses and black and yellow taxis rose to the occasion to help tourists reach their destination following the strike by tourist taxis on the second day although some tourists wanting to travel to north Goa had to face some hardships as they had to travel by buses.
Yellow and black taxis were ferrying passengers from Margao to other destinations and in the morning only 8 such taxis left from the Konkan Railway Station here to travel to Panjim. A couple that arrived at around 10 am at the station had difficulty to get to Anjuna till one black and yellow taxi owner agreed to drop them.
The attendant at the pre-paid taxi counter was helpless as the black and yellow taxi drivers refused to travel beyond Panjim in north and some did not even want to travel to Panjim.
“I cannot force them to go as they are afraid that their vehicle may be stoned,” said the attendee.
In the morning Kadamba buses made four trips with passengers from the railway station to the KTC bus stand while there were some private buses that took passengers directly to the north including Candolim and Calangute. These buses charged the passengers Rs 150 to Rs 200 per person to travel to Calangute.
All the black and yellow taxis including the ones that were plying on the Margao-Colva route were seen at the Konkan Railway station on Saturday and the Colva taxi stand at Lohia Maidan was occupied by private vehicles.
Some tourist vehicles were seen parked near Margao residency but the owners were quick to clarify that they had brought their family members to Margao for shopping.
