PANJIM: Transport Department on Thursday issued an order directing replacement of the word “disabled” with “physically challenged.”
The directions are issued to all the operators of public service vehicles in order to ensure that the reservation of seats for physically challenged persons have expression “seats reserved for physically challenged persons” instead of “seats reserved for handicapped persons.”
The development comes in the wake of a letter by activist Vishant Nagvekar to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The department has also asked for compliance report from the operators within two weeks.
