Cabbage prices fall in Belgaum

The people of Goa can now include abundant portions of cabbage in their dishes, with the price of cabbages likely to drop to its lowest rates in the last two years.
The green, crispy and delicious vegetable is now available in Belgaum at a retail rate of Rs 10 a kilo, following a bumper harvest in North Belgaum taluka.
Since most of the vegetables from Goa are procured from Belgaum, the drop in prices of cabbages in Belgaum will lead to a similar reduction in Goa.
According to sources, cabbage was harvested in large quantity at Kadoli, Gunjenatti, Jafarwadi. Devgiri, Kangrali and other villages near Belgaum. About 200 acres of land was cultivated for Cabbage this season. The reason for this has been attributed to large-scale cultivation.
According to farmers, many farmers who were cultivating potatoes till last year diverted to cultivation of Cabbage this year, expecting higher rates.
However, this has turned to be the bane for the farmers as rise in cultivation has resulted in rise in the harvest too resulting in collapse of prices. However, the bane to farmers has turned out to be boon for people, who are marred by the high vegetable prices throughout the year and have heaved a sigh of relief and are relishing on all the possible cabbage delicacies.
