VASCO: Opposing the Rs 50 toll at the Dabolim airport, agitated taxi operators on Thursday called off their protest following police intervention.
Around 15 policemen along with airport police officer approached the taxi operators and asked them not to stage protests at the airport, which may cause traffic congestion due to ongoing IFFI in State.
Vasco DySP Rajendra Raut Dessai and Airport PI Sagar Ekoskar met the taxi operators and explained to them that if they try to protest then police would have to register an offence against them. However, the taxi operators followed the advice of the police officials and called off their agitation.
Chetan Kamat, president of Tourist Taxi Owners’ Association, informed media persons that on the request of the police officials, they have decided not to stage protest due to the ongoing IFFI. However, the taxi operators said they would protest after the film festival concludes.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, informed media that efforts are being made to put me behind bars for supporting the taxi operators. “Even today, police officers asked us that if we protest then we will be arrested. But I will continue to support our Goan taxi operators,” Reginaldo said.
A call was made to all taxi operators to come out in large number to protest at the Dabolim Airport on Thursday.
