Cabinet clears functional secretariat for BRICS, 16 posts in CEO office

PANJIM: The State cabinet on Wednesday approved a special secretariat for the BRICS summit besides creating 16 posts in chief electoral office.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the functional secretariat for the BRICS summit, as done in the case of the exposition, was required. “We are hosting two summits – BRICS and BIMSTEC – which involves 12 nations and all arrangements need to be done promptly,” he said.
Parsekar said everything cannot come to the cabinet and hence a functional secretariat was necessary. “With the functional secretariat administrative and finance approval will be given fast,” he said.
Parsekar said the Chief Minister will head the functional secretariat while the Dy Chief Minister Francis D’souza will be the co-chairman.
“Chief Secretary, Secretary GAD, Secretary Finance, Principal Chief Engineer (PWD), Additional Secretary Finance are members, while Additional Secretary GAD is the member secretary,” he said.
Parsekar further said the cabinet has approved the creation of 16 posts in the Chief Electoral Officer. “They had requested for 16 posts and for the first time the ARD approved without any objection,” he said.
