Cable TV mess continues

Cable TV operators demanded government’s intervention; Exhort consumers to move courts

PANJIM: The All Goa Cable TV Operators Association (AGCTA) on Wednesday slammed the Bhima Riddhi Cable Services (BRDS) for the chaos they have created in the cable operations in the State.
However, the cable TV operators have also demanded government’s intervention and have also appealed to the consumers to file a petition in consumer courts.
Addressing the media, AGCTA, North Goa, President Sagar Govekar said, “There are lot of news coming in the newspapers; and in fact, today in some newspapers the BRDS has a given a statement that the local cable operators are totally responsible for this chaos as we have not regularly made payments to them or (made only) part payment.”
“We have officially complained to BRDS, but till now we have not received any reply. And in this regard, we will be meeting the North Goa collector to seek the government’s intervention so that consumers do not suffer. We cannot take signals from another operator unless the boxes are changed in all the houses. If BRDS is ready to take those boxes, we are ready to change the operator so that the consumer is not affected,” said Govekar
He further said the government should take over the cable TV operations in Goa and currently it is being monopolized by non-Goans.
“There should be a transparency; people are thinking that we the cable operators are switching off the signals. We cannot tamper with the signals. The collector had also informed the operator that they would be blacklisted if the signal was not restored but it still continues. I do not know what big game they are playing; some people are saying that they want the Goan operators out of the business,” he said
