Cabral to decide on CCMC top posts

CURCHOREM: The election for the posts of chairperson and vice chairperson of the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) has been fixed for November 5. With his panel attaining a majority, BJP-backed Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral will have to choose two names for the coveted posts.

CURCHOREM: The election for the posts of chairperson and vice chairperson of the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) has been fixed for November 5. With his panel attaining a majority, BJP-backed Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral will have to choose two names for the coveted posts.
When contacted, Cabral disclosed that the newly elected councillors, at a meeting on Sunday, asked him to suggest two names. He said he would consult his party and take a decision by Monday and added that no councillor has staked their claim for the posts.
According to sources, first-time councillor from Ghotmorad ward Sawant Vishwas Pandu is a frontrunner for the chairperson’s post, while former chairperson Dr Jasmine Braganza, who has been elected for the second time from Carriamoddi ward, is being considered for the vice-chairperson’s post.
Quepem Deputy Collector Shanker Gaonker will be the presiding officer for the election on November 4 and will also administer the oath to the newly elected councillors.
