MAPUSA: A group of locals from Calangute and Candolim village, led by former MLA Agnelo Fernandes, submitted a memorandum to the junior engineer (JE) at the Calangute Electricity office complaining about constant power fluctuation in the constituency.
Locals have given the department a 15-day ultimatum to resolve the issue.
According to the memorandum, the erratic and fluctuating power supply has made peoples’ lives miserable. Locals pointed out that power fluctuates nearly 20 times a day, which affects their household and commercial activities.
In the memorandum, the locals decried the electricity department for increasing the tariff, when the quality of power supply is poor.
When asked why there was constant power fluctuation in Calangute and Candolim, JE Rupesh Sinari said that the requirement in these villages is 32 KV, but the supply is only 23 KV.
“We have already forwarded a letter to the chief engineer. The problem will be resolved once the Verla-Canca line from Nagao to Candolim and double circuit line from Porvorim to Saligao are put in place,” he said.
