Calangute comunidade attorney grilled on several issues

CALANGUTE: The Managing Committee of Calangute Comunidade including its Attorney Anthony D’Souza was taken to task by the shareholders on several issues at the annual general body meeting held after three years.
The proceedings saw the discussion over various issues such as the issuance of NOCs to few parties without taking the general body into confidence, development of plots, encroachment on comunidade property and filing of FIR against the former secretary for not writing the minutes of the previous annual general body meeting properly.
The shareholders inquired into the recent statement made by the Calangute MLA stating that 30,000 sq mts was given by the Calangute Comunidade for constructing an animal shelter.
A letter addressed to the committee by Maria D’Costa and Flory D’Costa was placed in the general body wherein the above mentioned parties were asking for a plot admeasuring 200 sq mts on lease at the side of St Anthony Chapel. The shareholders objected to this and decided to hand over the plot to the chapel committee for parking.
A shareholder questioned why there was no announcement made in the church with regards to Sunday’s the annual general body meeting.  
Clotilda Braganza questioned as to why no survey numbers were mentioned of the huge tracts of comunidade land sold to various people.
To this, the attorney told that no NOCs were given by the Managing Committee during his term.
Rubbishing the statement, the former sarpanch of Calangute and shareholder, Joseph Sequeira produced documents showing that Anthony had signed several NOCs as attorney.
It was resolved to revoke majority of the NOCs given by the previous and current committees as demanded by the shareholders, barring the NOCs issued to public projects.
The Saligao garbage plant has been constructed on Calangute Comunidade land and the shareholders sought to know how much land was sold as they were no records.
Over thirty shareholders were present for the meeting.
