MAPUSA: The Calangute police busted a sex racket by arresting two pimps and rescuing two girls, on Saturday.
The arrested pimps are identified as one Firoz Khurshid Khan (34), a native of Mumbai and one Mohanlal Madan Puri (24), a native of Jaipur in Rajasthan. One of the rescued girls is from Kolkata and the other is from Delhi.
PI Jivba Dalvi said that he received information that two pimps were operating in Calangute area and supplying girls to customers.
Accordingly, PI Dalvi and his team set a trap for the pimps by contacting them through a dummy customer in the presence of NGO Savera member Andrea Pereira. The pimps offered to deliver the girls at Agarwado in the village and when they arrived on two scooters with two girls, the police immediately arrested the pimps and rescued the victims.
Police also seized seven mobile phones, Rs 15,000 in cash and two scooters from the pimps.The victim girls are currently lodged at the protective home in Merces. The pimps have been booked under Section 3, 4, 5 and 7 of Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and Section 370, 370(3) of IPC.
The other members of the team that busted the sex racket are PSI Vidyesh Pilgaonkar, PSI Sitaram Malik, Karishma Parulekar, PC Sanjyot Kerkar and Laurence Pereira.
