MAPUSA: Expressing concern on structures mushrooming in No Development Zone, Calangute Constituency Forum, filed a complaint with NGPDA and Calangute Panchayat.
In the letter, the Forum stated “some construction of concrete structures is ongoing within No Development zone in a property bearing survey no. 158/1 in the jurisdiction of Village Panchayat Calangute. Villagers have great concern over these construction activities which will destroy and disturb the beach environment of the area.”
“The said concrete construction is taking place within 100 metres from the LTL wherein steel and concrete is being used to erect the columns which are not permitted in no development zone as per CRZ rules,” the letter said.
“We do not know whether permission is sought from the concerned authorities to carry out such concretisation on the beach and in the no development zone of the area,” said the Forum letter.
The forum further requested the concerned authorities to initiate immediate action in this matter failing which the villagers will move to appropriate authority to seek justice.
