2 denied bail

MARGAO: Additional Sessions Judge Dvijple Patkar rejected the bail application of two males arrested in two separate cases under the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act. Incidentally both the accused are not Goans nor were residents of Goa.

In the first case the bail application of Anand Basu alias Vasu Gaonkar a 25-year-old resident of Indore in Madhya Pradesh was rejected. The said Vasu was arrested on February 10, 2021 in Madhya Pradesh and brought down to Goa as the crime had occurred in Goa.

On October 3, 2020 following a raid by the Crime Branch at Margao Prakash Kumar Mewada who was a pimp selling girls for sexual favours was arrested and following his interrogation it was learnt that Vasu had supplied the girls.

Following his arrest it is now learnt that Vasu is involved in similar cases booked at Margao and Calangute police station and also another case booked by the Crime Branch.

In the second case Saramodh alias Suraj Sharma’s bail application was rejected. He was arrested from a beach resort in Colva where under the guise of a massage parlour he was running a prostitution racket and five girls were rescued.

Both the bail applications were opposed by Public Prosecutor Utkarsh Avde.
