MAPUSA: Calangute villagers on Tuesday confronted Calangute electricity officials at the local office over regular power cuts especially during the night.
The villagers claim that since past three months they are facing power cuts every day for four to five hours especially during the night. And with the arrival of tourist and Christmas season, they are facing more inconvenience.
The villagers first met the Assistant Engineer and demanded to meet the Executive Engineer (EE). Later, EE Pradip Narvekar met and explained to the villagers that a part called breaker has been damaged at Nagoa plant and this part is ordered from Nashik. “It will take 10 days for this part to arrive and once the part is installed, the issue will be resolved,” he said.
However, the villagers demanded that power supply to all star resorts, and hotels be stopped, as they are supposed to use generators between 6 pm and 11 pm. “Instead of using the generators, the hotels are using regular electricity,” they said.
The Villagers have given a 7-day ultimatum to the Executive Engineer to solve the problem, failing which, they have threatened to protest at the office.
