The State Election Commission is yet to issue notification on the forthcoming polls for the civic bodies in the State, but that has not deterred many a aspiring candidate to kick off their campaign in style.
Camilo Barreto – husband of sitting Margao Municipal Councillor Livramenta Barreto – is one such candidate, who has started his election campaign in right earnest. Camilo’s election banners are prominently seen in the Borda ward, where he is planning to contest from in the ensuing polls.
A huge banner requesting voters of Ward No 9 (Borda) to vote and elect Camilo Barreto has come up at a prominent place in the ward.
Incidentally, Camilo is planning to cross swords against Tito, the son of former MLA and Minister, Luis Alex Cardozo.
Ward No 9 has been in the news in recent times with reports stating that moves are afoot to reserve the ward for the Scheduled Tribe. In fact, the reports gained credence following a meeting between the Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat, GPCC General Secretary Vijay Sardessai and Luis Alex Cardozo at the residence of the Chief Minister last week.
