MAPUSA: With the village panchayat and authorities concerned dragging their feet in initiating action against an alleged illegal mega project and refusing to give justice to them, the Camurlim villagers now pinned hope on divine providence, invoked their Gods and vowed to intensify their stir.
“We will opt for all legal means and knock at every door to stop the project from destroying their village and won’t hesitate to even take law in our hands if needed,” said irate villagers.

On Sunday, a large number of villagers gathered at a sacred spot in the village and prayed to the local rakandar (Zitva) to take care of all the politicians and officials who have benefitted monetarily to approve this project.
Nubert Fernandes, a villager said, “We wrote letters to all the authorities but get oral assurances but no action has been initiated till date.”
“This project will disturb the entire ecosystem in the village and pose danger to the hills in surrounding villages. The entire state is already facing problems with regards to load shedding, water scarcity and if such projects are allowed then they will finish off our natural resources,” said Babani Gad, another villager.
“The project will not only destroy the village but it is an ecological disaster. We have complained to each and every department. The issue was also raised in the Assembly but there was no action taken.
“We have invoked Zitva.He is a powerful God who is worshiped by everyone in the village. We have prayed to him to give us strength to take the protest ahead. We have also pleaded with him to punish everyone who have joined hands to grant clearnances to the project ,” a local said.
