CANACONA: A half-day peaceful bandh proposed by citizens of Canacona to express their solidarity and pay condolence to murder of Danielle McLaughlin.
In a press note issued here, the Canacona citizens said that they have asked the business community in the town to observe a half day peaceful bandh on coming Friday as a mark of respect to the departed soul of young Danielle McLaughlin who was brutally raped and murdered at Devabagh fields in Canacona, and also to show solidarity towards the tourists who are shaken by this gruesome incident.
They said, “Criminals are just a few in numbers and Canacona is a nice and full of hard working, peace loving people. We have lots of good things, but one or two incidents like this spoil our name collectively.”
“And we want to work for the future where this kind of heinous acts will never happen to anyone. That’s why we want everyone to come and join us in this meeting to pay respect and condolence to Danielle McLaughlin on March 31, at Gaitonde mini complex ground at 10.30 am,” added the press communiqué.
Meanwhile, Bailancho Ekvott has appealed to all tourists, especially women, to be cautious while cultivating friendship with unknown persons as “you are not aware of the antecedents and criminal minds of the strangers.”
The appeal has been made in view of the gruesome murder of Danielle McLaughlin.
The Ekvott also has asked the government to clamp down on drug peddlers, thieves and pimps who operate as guides. “This should not be an exercise for a few days but a systematic process. Late night parties in tourist spots be monitored with a hawk’s eye” the NGO demanded.
The NGO also demanded that the government has to have a strong advisory to tourists about care and precautions they need to take in Goa.
