CANACONA: Hundreds of people from in and around Rajbag-Tarir-Kindlem bid a tearful adieu to the fisherwoman, Vijaya Pagi, who was allegedly raped and brutally murdered last Friday.
Residents including some prominent people paid their last respects before her mortal remains were consigned to flames on Thursday.
An inconsolable Shashikant (Shashi) recalled the last time he had spoken to her.
“I had called on her mobile and she was very happy when I told her that a baby was born to her brother’s son. That was the last time I spoke to her,” he said.
“While her mobile has gone missing, her cloth money bag has also disappeared with all the money, but her phone dairy, which was in the bag, was found near the body. Her mangalsutra and earnings were intact on her body, as she did not wear the gold bangles that day. Her phone dairy has been taken by police for investigation.”
ZP Poinguinim Daya Pagi, Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Mahadev Dessai, ex-Canacona MLA Vijay Poi Khot, most present and past councillors, social workers and others visited Vijaya’s residence.
