PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) is not ruling out the possibility of cancelling Class X and XII examinations if the COVID situation does not come under control by first week of July.
The GBSHSE is closely monitoring the COVID situation in the State in a bid to take call over conducting of Class X and XII examination, which are currently postponed.
The Board is also awaiting decision of the Union Education Ministry with regards to Class XII exams of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The Ministry has already cancelled Class X CBSE exams. Due to surge in COVID cases, the Class X and XII board exams, which were scheduled between April-June, were postponed by the government.
Speaking to Herald, the Board chairman Bhagirath Shetye said during a consultation with the stakeholders, they were of the opinion that they need to wait till May 24 to see the situation.
“We are also waiting for CBSE Board decision with regards to Class XII exams,” he said.
Responding to a question, Shetye said if the situation does not come under control by first week of July, the possibility of cancellation of Board exams cannot be ruled out.
“The exams have to take place latest by July because then the Class XII students have their competitive exams to answer. If exams delay further, everything will be delayed,” he explained.
The Class XII exams were scheduled from April 24 while Class X exams were to be held from May 19.
