CUNCOLIM: In four major panchayats of Velim constituency many heavy weights are locking horns and are trying to maintain their power over local self governing bodies.
It’s strange but true big politicians have kept away from local politicians. They may be working behind the curtains but none of the big political figure are seen directly involved in panchayat politics. MLA Philip Nero Rodriguez former MLA Benjamin Silva or for that matter AAP local leader Cruse Silva are not directly involved in local politics.
In Assolna Panchayat sitting Sarpanch Pedrina Cardozo, former sarpanch Fremila Almeida, present deputy Sarpanch Jayant Arolkar, former Dy Sarpanch Savio Cetera are facing tough fight from their opponents. There is a straight fight in Collemwado and Mulleamwado ward between Sarpanch Pedrina Cardozo and Salima Colaco. Pedrina is facing a tough fight from Salima who is a new entrant but is confident of becoming a giant killer.
In Banda ward former Sarpanch Fremila Almeida is trying her best for a second term. Xavier Almeida who is contesting against Fremila in Banda ward in a straight fight is putting his heart and soul in the fight. In Vollant ward there is four corner fight. Dy.Sarpanch Jayant Arolkar is facing strong opposition from Gajanan Budhalkar, Diya and Renny Rodriguez. A split in votes can spoil the game of Arolkar. Dy Sarpanch Jayant Arolkar is asking votes for the work he has done while the other three are blaming him for no development.
In Waddem ward former Dy Sarpanch Savio Ferera is facing a tough fight from Revlon Ferera and Russel Vaz. Savio is confident but the other two are putting up a strong fight.
