According to the activists, the government authorities had assured them that the trees would be saved by realigning the construction of six-lane elevated corridor, but most of them have been badly mutilated and their survival is bleak. They alleged that a politician had pushed for cutting of these age-old banyan and Pipal trees.
Concerned citizens have appealed to Porvorim residents to join in large numbers at the Sunday candlelight protest near Vodakkodem against the translocation of the lone iconic banyan (Vod) surviving tree.
