CALANGUTE: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, on Thursday, remanded Arvind Raju Pawar, accused of allegedly murdering Candolim resident Arnaldo Soares, in police custody for eight more days.
On Wednesday, Pawar had been remanded in one day’s police custody after he was brought from Karnataka. The Police said his custody was needed for further investigations.
In a boost to investigations in the brutal murder which sent shockwaves in the Calangute-Candolim beach-belt, DGP Alok Kumar visited Calangute Police Station on Thursday, to congratulate the investigation team for tracing and arresting the prime suspect in the case within two days.
“The investigation team has done a very good job and I came here to congratulate them and to meet the staff of Calangute Police Station,” Kumar said.
SP (North) Akshat Kaushal, said that the DGP briefed them on how to make the case more effective, while preparing the charge-sheet. The DGP also discussed how to make the functioning of the Calangute Police station, including the Traffic Cell, more effective, he said.
DySP Vishwesh Karpe and Calangute PI Paresh Naik were also present.
