Cane farmers for resumption of crushing season

SANGUEM: Sugarcane cultivators from Rivona, Maina Pirla, Kavrem, Kevona and Shvsorem villages from Sanguem Taluka on Tuesday demanded immediate resumption of sugarcane crushing at Sanjivani Sugar Factory, at Usgao.

Exclusively blaming the government for the mess at Sanjivani Sugar Factory, the farmers appealed the government to put things in place and get it going at Sanjivani Sugar Factory.

Bostiao Simoes, a sugarcane cultivator and member of Shetkari Sanghatna termed the government decision to close down the sugar factory inappropriate and claimed the decision to have been taken only to kill the sugarcane cultivation in the State.

“The government has been harassing the sugarcane cultivators since last several years. However, despite the harassment and delayed of payments during each season, the sugarcane cultivators have bore the brunt and the same style of harassment continues as of date,” lamented Simoes.

The farmers however will not fall prey to the government tactics to close the lone sugarcane factory in State, claimed Simoes while appealing the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar to take immediate steps to put things in place at Sanjivani Sugar Factory.

Simoes also criticised the government for non payment of dues for the sugarcane transported in the last season to Laila Sugar Factory, at Kolhapur. Despite frequent demands from the farmers, the government only keeps on assuring that the payment will be done in the next few days but the payment never materialises on the assured date.
