MAPUSA: Driver of a tourist taxi had a lucky escape after the taxi he was driving caught fire.
The cause of fire is suspected to be short circuit. The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday when the driver was proceeding towards Tivim railway station to pick up guests.
According to information provided by Mapusa Fire Station incharge, they received a call at 12.57 am informing that a car bearing registration no. GA-03-T-8093 has caught fire at Cansa-Tivim. An emergency vehicle was turned out and the team of fire personnel immediately commenced the fire fighting operation.
As per the driver, while the car was moving towards Tivim, there was smoke from the bonnet. Immediately the driver stopped the car and further went underneath the car to check the cause however while doing due to strong flames he received burn injuries to his hand.
The team of fire fighters consisted of fire fighter S.M Khan, Nitin Chodankar, Bhagwan Palni, Tejas Bandekar and Chandrakant Naik.
