P’yat asked to handover cyclone shelter to Sanjay School

PANJIM: North Goa District Administration has directed Penha de Franca panchayat to hand over cyclone shelter in Porvorim to Sanjay School for Special Education as a stopgap arrangement after a student succumbed to injuries after falling off the school building.

The direction has been issued based on recommendation of State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Porvorim, that the vocational centre and Higher Secondary of Sanjay Centre for Special Education be shifted to Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter, Porvorim, on top priority as a stopgap arrangement till the premises of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary (old building) is ready for shifting.

A student with disabilities had died after a fall from the old The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) building at Porvorim and later succumbed to injuries on September 11 this year.

The accident had occurred when the victim along with his mother had visited the school to update his Aadhaar Card.

While they were on the second floor, his mother went inside to submit the documents, the victim was standing outside. Tragically, while leaning against a railing, it gave way, resulting in a devastating fall. The victim had sustained head and spinal injuries and was also facing breathing issues since his ribs were also injured.
