Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) and Archbishop of Goa and Daman, has called on the faithful of the Latin Catholic Church in India to unite in prayer for peace amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a message addressed to archbishops, bishops, priests, religious and lay faithful, Cardinal Ferrão expressed concern over the growing violence in the region, particularly in light of recent hostilities involving Iran and neighbouring countries. He noted that the conflict has caused great suffering and uncertainty, especially for many Indians living and working in Middle Eastern countries.

Cardinal Ferrão urged the faithful to pray for the safety and well-being of Indians abroad, many of whom support their families back home and contribute significantly to both the Church and the nation.
He announced that Sunday, March 8, 2026, will be observed as a Day of Prayer for Peace, with special intentions to be included during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist for an end to hostilities, the protection of innocent lives, and wisdom among world leaders.
The faithful have also been encouraged to recite the Holy Rosary daily from March 8 to March 14 for peace and reconciliation. In addition, Friday, March 13, has been designated as a day of fasting and prayer, with Catholics invited to offer sacrifices for world peace and for all those affected by violence and conflict.
The appeal concluded with a call for unity in prayer and solidarity, expressing hope that peace and reconciliation would prevail during the ongoing crisis.
