PANJIM: Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira, who has been appointed as the Chief Whip said that he will take the responsibility seriously and those MLAs who don’t adhere to the directions of the whip will face disqualification.
He added that he used to help Congress draft their whips in the past and so was familiar with the nuances and would work in consultation with the Congress leaders when it comes to taking a stand on various decisions.
He also criticised those who defect by changing parties overnight and said the elected MLAs should respect the mandate given to them by the people. He added that if MLAs want to switch sides they should resign first and go back to the people.
He also added that both sides can use the law to form the government. “If that side – referring to the BJP– has used the law, we also can use the law,” said Ferreira
He clarified however that it will not make any unprincipled move. “We will do whatever is in accordance with the law. I don’t say unprincipled actions,” said Ferreira.
