MARGAO: The Carmona gram sabha resolved to implement fees for collecting dry waste from households.Sarpanch Sandra Fernandes explained that the panchayat had already incurred a substantial expenditure of Rs 8 lakh for dry waste collection in the current financial year and that the panchayat was yet to receive the promised grant from the government for managing the garbage.
With the government’s notification putting the fees for each household at Rs 60 per month, the gram sabha resolved to impose an annual fee of Rs 200 per household.
It may be recalled that this issue and the proposed fees per household had come up for discussion at a previous gram sabha too wherein the villagers had urged the panchayat to
urge the government to sanction the garbage management funds at the earliest to help support the panchayat in its waste management activities.
