Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW) today said that certain cases need immediate priority, which is the reason why few other cases remain pending.
“We go by proper procedure. It is a judiciary proceeding…but there are also cases which require urgent attention such as the incident of a woman who was allegedly beaten up by the police at Bicholim on Sunday,” GSCW chairperson Ezilda Sapeco said referring to statements on delay in inquiries.
The commission received 222 cases in 2010 of which 30-odd cases reached logical conclusion.
“In almost all cases, we visit the spot in person apart from counselling aggrieved parties in the commission office. We have to send notices, summons, record statements and execute other actions to solve a case…Each case has to be paid special attention and we make it a point to bring these cases to logical conclusion,” she said.
The commission refrained itself from probing Nadia Torrado’s death which kept making headlines after alleged involvement of the former tourism minister Francisco Pacheco.
To this, Sapeco said that they do not interfere in all cases as it would hamper police investigation. At the same time, the commission has probed into a complaint made by Nadia’s mother Sonia and brothers of harassment by police. The inquiry is however abandoned mid-way as the matter has reached High Court now.
