PANJIM: All casinos – onshore and offshore – have been directed to shut operations for 24 hours on October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
An order issued by the State government on Friday said that every year, the State observes dry day on October 2 to pay homage and respect to the Father of the Nation.
“In this regard, all the casino licensees directed by the Department of Home (General) to stop the operation of the casinos in the State of Goa on October 2, 2017 from 12.00 am midnight to 12.00 am midnight 24 hours,” the order states.
The BJP-led government through a cabinet decision in 2014 had decided to keep casinos closed for 24 hours on October 2, which is observed as dry day.
