The Association also condemned the “artificial” shortage of beef in Goa caused by the authorities despite it being a staple diet of Christians, Muslim and international tourists.
Association President Edwin Fonseca said it was sad when former super cop and ambassador to Romania Julio Ribeiro had expressed dismay over the fact that “systematic targeting of the small and peaceful Christian community should begin only after the BJP government of Narendra Modi came to power last May.”
He pointed out that while Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has ensured 10 tonnes incoming beef supply from another state, this was insufficient to meet the consumers needs of about 40 tonnes per day. “The present beef shortage has led to skyrocketing prices of chicken, pork, mutton and fish and I do not know what will be the price of beef now due to this shortage in Goa. Christians will be celebrating the feast of Easter and sufficient supply of beef and other meats will bring joy to their dining tables,” the CAG President said. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about Achche Din and Goans are awaiting this Achche Din. But till then, I request the Goa Government to control the meat prices while ensuring adequate beef supply to Goa consumers so that the common man is not affected by the price hike”, Fonseca said.
