MARGAO: Various issues concerning the Cavelossim village panchayat were presented to the South Goa District Collectorate on Thursday.

Addressing the recent controversy regarding alleged CRZ violations on property owned by former Indian cricketer Aashish Nehra, Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz noted that while the panchayat has issued notices, their powers are limited, with the maximum penalty they can impose being Rs 25,000. He expressed hope that the Goa State Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), which has already issued a notice, would take more substantial action.
Vaz also announced progress on the establishment of a dog shelter, following a previous meeting with the collector. This shelter, intended for aggressive dogs amid rising dog bite incidents, will allow for their temporary confinement. Animal welfare NGOs are set to collaborate with the government on future steps. Additionally, a designated dog feeding area has been identified.
Regarding public transport, Vaz raised concerns about the lack of buses, which hinders residents’ access to transportation. He urged the government to urgently address this issue.
On power supply matters, Vaz mentioned that the panchayat and the village development committee (VDC) have informed the local MLA of ongoing problems. They requested that ongoing work be expedited to ensure improved power supply by Christmas, criticizing the Power Department for allegedly treating their village unfairly.
