CCP defers plan to develop food truck zone near ESG

CCP on Tuesday deferred a proposal to develop food truck zone opposite the ESG building.

PANJIM: The Corporation of The City of Panaji (CCP) on Tuesday deferred a proposal to develop food truck zone opposite the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) building, here, after many councillors strongly opposed the proposal as it would cause traffic congestion in the city.

Councillor Joel Andrade said that the food truck zone if permitted opposite the ESG building will result chaos and create massive traffic jams along the D Bandodkar Road. 

He also asked Mayor Rohit Monserrate to look at the High Court of Bombay at Goa order before approving the proposal.

Councillor Uday Madkaikar said the High Court had stopped holding of ‘Ashtami’ fair during Ganesh Chaturthi on the footpath opposite Panjim market along the D Bandodkar Road as it was causing traffic problems. Councillors Vasant Aghshikar, Surendra Furtado  and others also opposed the proposal and suggested to relocate the site.  

Co-opted Councillor Kabir Makhija Pinto suggested that the food truck zone be developed at EDC Patto, Panjim.  Later, the proposal was deferred. 

The meeting passed a resolution demanding criminal action against the contractors and engineer responsible for the bad condition of roads in the capital city. 

Madkaikar demanded that all four contractors who had executed the road works be blacklisted and banned for five years and to initiate Vigilance inquiry against the PWD engineers who certified the quality of the road works.  

Councillor Joel sought to know what sort of beautification and maintenance Manas Developers proposed in the five locations across the city and why the vagueness in the proposal that the ruling panel is in a hurry to pass. 

He also demanded that the copy of the request letter and details be circulated to all the councillors until which the proposal be kept on hold. 

Joel asked Commissioner Agnelo Fernandes the criteria for appointing advocates on the CCP panel. 

“What criteria were followed to appoint these advocates on the CCP panel? You must share this with all the councillors.”

Joel also demanded that the objections he raised in the National theatre building be recorded in the minutes of the ordinary meeting held in May this year and urged the Corporation the need to change the system and to provide workers and machinery to councillors to carry pout urgent works during monsoon.

Expressing his annoyance over the Commissioner not responding to his calls, Joel said, “Our Commissioner doesn’t pick up calls nor respond to messages. What sort of governance is this?”
