PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji has demanded that the Entertainment Society of Goa pay 50% of the fees collected from the food stalls or it would demolish them immediately, since permissions had not been taken from the civic body.
In an inaugural that was shrouded in controversy, the CCP Wednesday through its Mayor hit out at the organisers for sending his IFFI invitation and those of his corporators only by 12.30 pm Wednesday, a few hours before the start of the function.
Furtado told Herald said that his corporators were boycotting the function because ‘we got the invite at 12.30pm Wednesday…. we are taking a resolution in the coming meet not to take up ESG cleanliness in lifting garbage from next year.”
Adding more fuel to the fire, he said that he had instructed the CCP commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues that since they had not taken permission from the CCP to set up the food stalls, they should be removed immediately or else they would have to pay 50% of the fees collected from the stalls to the CCP immediately.
A majority of the Congressmen also boycotted the function, except leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane with some including the Congress President Subash Shirodkar saying that they had not received any invitation while others including MLAs were busy with elections in other parts of the country.
