PANJIM: After having faced flak over the delay in signing lease agreements and execution of other agreements, Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has now decided to get the agreements examined before being signed.
Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado on Tuesday, in a note to the CCP Commissioner Dipak Desai, stated that due to lacunae in the agreements, the municipal corporation has not been able to recover payments from the contractors.
He stated, “It is observed that on account of some lacunae in the agreements executed by the Corporation of the City of Panaji with the contractors for collection of parking fees, sopo fees, rent, etc, the contractors are not paying the dues to the Corporation of the City of Panaji in time and regularly, as a result of which this corporation is incurring huge financial losses.”
Furtado, based on the assessments, has suggested to the Commissioner to send the agreements to the panel of advocates before executing them. “It is therefore suggested that to avoid such lapses and lacunae in the agreements to be executed in future, we may send the present agreements to Adv Pranay Kamat, who is on the panel of advocates of the Corporation of the City of Panaji, to examine if any changes/addition are required therein and send them back to us,” the note stated.
