CCP to demolish Panjim fish market, vendors to be relocated

PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Wednesday approved the demolition of Panjim Fish Market building and construction of temporary fish stalls.

Speaking to mediapersons after the ordinary meeting, CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate said, “We want to commence construction of phase III of the market. The building which has the fish and meat stalls will be demolished. The demolition work of the old building will start from this month. The fish vendors will be rehabilitated.”

The municipal fish market building has 38 Sheets and 39 Chalta. The Corporation has obtained structural stability report from the Government Polytechnic, Panjim, according to which the building has outlived its economic life and is in distressed condition and presently the building is unsafe for human occupation.

The estimated cost for the demolition of the building is Rs 4,98,750 which is inclusive of 5 per cent contingencies and 18 per cent GST.

The cost of the demolition work will be borne by the Corporation. As many as 13 temporary meat stalls are to be constructed at the cost of Rs 20, 61,964 which will include 9 per cent of electrical works, 5 per cent contingencies and 18 per cent GST.
