PANJIM: Amidst allegations of lapses in the handling of a 19-year-old’s drowning death, new evidence uncovered indicates that the teen made COVID-19 related searches on Google.

As multiple teams are looking for the teenager’s last movements, sources said, footage of CCTV cameras along the coastal stretch of Calangute, as well as Porvorim and Mapusa are being examined by a separate team of investigators.

Herald, exclusively in possession of some crucial deposition copies, has reported of the victim’s worry and fear about the infection. The 19-year-old had tested positive for COVID-19 on April 27. “Depressed” is what she has been described to have been by some of her family members, to the extent that the girl had refrained from stepping out of her house thereafter.

“She refused to step out of the house until she was convinced to join her job at Porvorim. She often searched about ‘black fungus’ on Google, as well as information about what if a person is re-infected with COVID-19. The family has not denied that she was stressed due to the ongoing pandemic,” sources said.

The North Goa Police and Crime Branch teams are also examining footage of CCTV cameras. Herald has learnt that footage of places even up to Anjuna is being scanned in an attempt to track her movements on the day she went missing.

One of the prime witnesses in the case, the bus conductor had told the police that the victim looked disturbed hours before the news about her missing was in the public domain.

The teen’s call details, messages, etc are also being scrutinised as the investigation continues.
