PONDA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday assured the mining belt people that the action towards resumption of iron ore mining in the State would start in the next three months through State-run Goa Mineral Development Corporation.

Speaking at Dharbandora Collector office, Sawant said, “The Corporation is formed with the aim that locals dependent on mining activities get various jobs and employment from mining.”
“The newly formed Goa Mineral Development Corporation will begin with mining related activities like auctioning of the mining leases. Government will extract 20 million tonnes of ore and once it starts, the mining activity will continue to remain uninterrupted in the State,” assured Sawant.
“The government has formed a mining corporation for the welfare of mining dependent people who are either employed in mining job or engaged in truck transportation, extraction activities through machineries or any related works,” he added.
Sawant stated that the State government has left no stone unturned to ensure that the mining activity re-starts, but could not achieve its goal as the matter is pending before Supreme Court.
“I am fully aware about the pain faced by the workers due to the closure of the mining industry. I also live in the mining belt. The government has been pressing hard to ensure that the mining industry resumes,” said the chief minister.
“The Goa government has passed the bill and formed the mining corporation to provide a permanent solution for the industry. We want to provide a solution for the mining industry for the next five years,” he said.
