PANJIM: Goa Police intends to install high resolution close circuit television (CCTV) cameras at police stations across both the districts and six border check-posts. The self-funded project will be implemented after the north and south Goa superintendents of police submit their proposals to the department.
Director General of Police T N Mohan told Herald that on an average, each of the over 25 police stations will have four to five CCTVs installed at the reception area, lock up and other crucial places.
“The CCTVs with recording facility are essentially to keep a watch on the happenings at the police stations and (quality of) public service delivered. Though there will not be a centralized facility for recording, the video grabs will be recorded (at each police station) and stored centrally station wise,” he said.
The respective deputy superintendents of police and police inspectors will be appointed as supervisory officers to ensure its smooth functioning.
“We have asked the district SPs to send their requirements. Once we receive the proposals, the money will be sanctioned,” Mohan said adding the project will cost about Rs 10 to 15 lakh. Several police stations have non-functional CCTVs, which are as old as 10 years.
The department will select an agency, keeping in mind various aspects as it certainly does not want to repeat past deficiencies when a private company had cheated the government of Rs 67 lakh by failing to comply with tender specifications.
