NEW DELHI: Tourism and Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma on Wednesday said the government has no scheme for financial assistance on religion basis for repairs of places of worship like churches, temples, mosques and gurdwaras.
In a written reply to Congress MP Shantaram Naik in the Rajya Sabha, he said there is, however, a scheme for financial assistance to monuments and historical buildings that are not less than 100 years old. Giving details of 21 protected monuments in Goa, he said the conservation work on them is attended regularly as per availability of resources and requirements of particular sites.
He said all these monuments in Goa are in a good state of preservation and the Centre spent Rs 7.82 crores on their conservation in the last three years.
The protected monuments in Goa are: Basilica of Bom Jesus (old Goa), Se’Cathedral (old Goa), Chapel of St Cajetan (old Goa), Church and Convent of St Francis Assisi (old Goa), Chapel of St Catherine (old Goa), Church of Lady of Rosary (old Goa), Mortal remains of St Paul’s College (Old Goa), Arch of Viceroy (old Goa), Arch of Adil Shah’s Palace (old Goa), Church of St Augustine (old Goa), Auguda Fortress (upper) (Candolim), Safa Masjid (Ponda), Rock cut caves (Arvalem), Mahadev Temple (Tamdisurla), Mahadev Temple (Kurdi), Excavated site (Chandore), Fortification Wall of Auguda Fortress (Lower) (Candolim), Chapel of St Francis Xavier.
and connected buildings (old Goa), House of Bull (old Goa), Largo of St Francis Xavier (old Goa), Largo of St Cajetan together with other monuments (old Goa).
